Dreamwork
Dreamwork is the term used to describe the various techniques
and processes of utilizing dreams to facilitate deeper understanding
of a person's life situation and pathways to healing. This includes
physical illness, as dreams have a deep connection with the body
and its processes.
Dreamwork is usually pursued in the context
of psychotherapy, but, having learned the language of the dream,
it may become a lifelong practice for an individual committed
to self-knowledge.
Depth psychology understands that the conscious mind is a small
feature of the psyche, and that healing of emotional wounds and
growth toward emotional wholeness must take into account the
vast domain of the unconscious.
The unconscious is a region of
the mind wherein yet unresolved experiences are stored and from
which profound wisdom and guidance may be accessed. Called by
Freud the via regia, or royal road to the unconscious, dreams
are the primary means by which the unconscious communicates with
consciousness.
