Mindfulness Meditation
As featured on Bill Moyer's PBS special Healing
and the Mind, Mindfulness-Based
Stress Reduction was first implemented
by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. at
the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Patients were
physician-referred for a wide spectrum of problems, including
stress, various psychological issues, heart disease, cancer,
AIDS, and chronic pain. Since its inception, numerous published
studies have supported its claimed benefits.
A meditation-based approach, MBSR addresses the mind-body connection
and utilizes it to empower clients by offering tools for enhancing
comfort, achieving insight, and using the energy of the illness
or problem to foster a more empowered experience of oneself.

Stress Management
An increasing number of physicians acknowledge what many of us have
known for a long time -- that stress destroys health. But a closer look
suggests that usually it is not the stressor, but the way we relate to
it that creates the experience of stress. This means that if we can learn,
practice and master skills that enable us to relate to stressors in totally
new ways, we can radically reduce the level of stress in our lives, and
thereby build better health.
At the Center for Integrated Healing, the
approach to stress management combines the contributions of Mindfulness-Based
Stress Reduction and the stress management program of Resource
International, a Houston-based management consulting company, which is
a leader in the field of reducing stress and enhancing the quality of
relationships in the workplace. |
